Domestic & Family Violence
One of the areas of research the Alfred Felton Research Program addresses is Domestic & Family Violence. Projects within the program look at a range of innovative areas of Domestic and Family Violence research, practice and policy initiatives.
Current Projects:
SAFER - Recently, the program began an extensive project to determine the current integration of family and domestic violence services and the effects of this integration on women, men and children. SAFER is an Australian Research Council Linkage Project and has additional funding from four Departments across the state of Victoria, including: Department of Planning and Community Development, Department of Justice, Department of Human Services and Victoria Police.
SARAH - Safety and Resiliance at Home - ARC linkage application for a PhD student, led by Kelsey Hegarty and Berry St as the industry partner ($96,420). SARAH looks at developing child-centred responses and interventions by professionals that allow children's missing voices to be heard, informing government policy as well as educational and counselling interventions for health and welfare professionals.
Maternal and Child Health Services and Intimate Partner Violence - Evaluating an effective model of good practice to reduce intimate partner violence among Maternal and Child Health Nurse populations. ARC Linkage application led by Angela Taft, Latrobe University ($333,500) Linkage Partner Vic Health
FAIR - The Family Violence Actioning Interdisciplinary Research committee brings together an inter-disciplinary team with not only expertise in research and evaluation, but also links to policy and service providers to build service capacity both regionally and nationally. The FAIR committee has representatives from across the Faculties of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Science, Law, Arts, Education and Architecture, Building and Planning, and links with other national (LaTrobe, Monash, Queensland) and international (UK, the Netherlands, Canada and New Zealand) groups. FAIR is funded by the Office of the Provost, The University of Melbourne.

Completed Projects:
Building the Evidence - Women with disabilities and Intimate Partner Violence. This Research, which looked at policy response to to violence against women with disabilities in Victoria, was conducted from Dec 2007 to June 2008 with funding by the Reichstein Foundation and the Department of Human Services and the in-kind support and dedication of the staff of our partners.
